Salary
- Annual Salary: $62,040
- State Incentive: $4,300 (after academy graduation)
- Future Certifications: additional $2,500 – $5,000
- Lateral Transfer: up to $12,000 incentive
City-Issued Equipment and Uniforms
Everything you need to be a police officer, including your uniforms from your badge to your socks is provided by the Department. Need something new? Just ask and we’ll order it.
Take Home Vehicle
As long as you live 35 miles from Headquarters.
Flexible Holidays
As you transition to becoming a police officer, you and your family will decide when the best time is to celebrate holidays with 8 floating holidays each year.
Cash-Out Program
Didn’t get to use your floating holidays or personal days? Just cash them out. Other programs include cashing out comp time and vacation hours!
Fitness
Access to the multiple fitness centers with all the equipment you need to stay in top shape. One fitness center is at Parks and Recreation, one is inside the Police Department.
Training
Multiple opportunities to learn new skills and department-paid training. Check out our list of Specialized Units to explore some of those opportunities!
Certification Pay
Certifications granted by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council earn police officers more money. Advanced Police Officers earn $2,500 certification pay each year and Master Police Officers earn $5,000 certification pay each year.
Shift Differential
Police officers and their supervisors that are assigned to “C” shift (11 p.m. – 7 a.m.) earn an additional $1.50 per hour.
Paid Leave
New police officers accrue paid leave starting the month after they are hired. Paid leave accruals increase with time in service.
