Minimum Requirements
Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
The CPAT is a pass/fail timed test which consists of eight separate events (stair climb, hose drag, equipment carry, ladder raise and extension, forcible entry, search, rescue, and ceiling breach and pull). The test is a sequence of events that requires the candidate to progress along a predetermined path from event to event in a continuous manner.
In order to proceed through the hiring process, applicants must submit a valid CPAT card by Sunday, April 10, 2022 (no exceptions/no extensions). CPAT certification must be valid through September 12, 2022. If your card expires on or before September 12, 2022, you will need to obtain and submit a new card by April 10, 2022.
Applicants can obtain certification anywhere in the U.S. the CPAT test is offered. Some dates and sites are listed below:

Applicants who have tested over the past 2 years (2020) can elect to carry over their recent test scores to this hiring cycle.

This is a video-based test that covers mechanical aptitude, basic math skills, human relations and teamwork, and reading ability. Ergometrics offers practice tests to help you prepare for the tests. There are two practice tests available for a fee. The basic practice test is $24.99 and the extended practice test is $38.99. Each practice test offers you two opportunities to familiarize yourself with the type of questions you will encounter on the test. These practice tests are NOT mandatory.
